Overview

Tom's Burgers stands as a classic hamburger joint nestled in the heart of East Los Angeles, an enduring fixture at 3566 1st St. This modest eatery offers a genuine, no-frills experience that locals and visitors alike cherish for its consistency and flavor. The brand is best known for its iconic pastrami dishes—particularly the Pastrami Burger and Pastrami Sandwich—which have garnered a loyal following. Longtime patrons attest to the robust, thick-cut pastrami that defines Tom’s signature taste, a highlight that truly sets it apart from typical burger stops.

The menu spans well beyond burgers, including crowd favorites like the Cheeseburger Special, Zucchini Sticks, and indulgent Chili Cheese Fries enhanced with pastrami. Breakfast seekers can delight in hearty sandwiches and burritos, while those craving variety can dive into tacos, hot dogs, and fish or chicken sandwiches. Tom's embraces the classic American burger shack vibe but spices it with local flavors and heartfelt preparation, giving each item a homestyle authenticity.

Guests frequently praise the warm, approachable environment where service feels personal and attentive, reminiscent of a community spot where everyone knows your name. Its location at a convenient corner with ample parking strengthens its appeal, inviting families, workers, and casual diners who seek a quick yet satisfying meal. The interior and setup embody that old-school charm—a "hole in the wall" with a vibrant, friendly energy.

Repeat visitors often remark on the consistency of quality when it comes to their specialty—the pastrami—which some say is unmatched in the Los Angeles area, though occasional supplier changes have stirred some debate among connoisseurs. Fries stand out for their size and crispness, often ordered "extra crispy," perfect for sharing. The balance of juicy burgers and complementary sides creates a fulfilling meal experience that resonates with both nostalgic locals and newcomers.

Whether catching a quick lunch, savoring a casual dinner, or gathering with family for a hearty feast, Tom's Burgers offers solid, dependable fare that taps into the essence of an enduring East LA institution. It caters especially well to those longing for authentic flavors that pay homage to classic American comfort food, served with an unmistakable local flair.

Toms Burger has been around for ages and served THE BEST PASTRAMI EVER! Occasionally they'll try and save money and switch suppliers - BAD MOVE- which is, in my personal opinion, WRONG. The taste is off, the cut is super thin, whereas the original is thick and an incredibly fantastic flavor. I have returned my pastrami if they do that and refuse to go there , I then notify all my friends for the heads-up. But evèrything else is standard burger joint fare, if you order fries I ALWAYS order them "burned" = Extra Crispy and an order could easily be shared with 4 or 5 friends and family. they also make a really good fried chicken and assorted other specials. I can walk there or use UberEats

Just luke I remembered as a kid when I would go with my parents. Food was good and tasted just like the way I remembered. The only thing missing are the shakes that they use to have.

Best burger shack in East LA with fast service and a friendly staff. My hamburger combo was one of the best I ever tasted: from the meat to the soft fries to the nice cold coke. I'm definitely coming back.

Delicious tacos, excellent breakfast burrito, some of the best pastrami in LA. If I didn’t live on the other side of town I’d definitely go back for more very soon. A local institution for decades for a reason.

Love this little hole in the wall old school little place! Very very yummy carne asada tacos, and very very yummy hot pastrami sandwich. Literally, the only thing that I could say could've been at all better, is just that I kinda wish I'd asked for extra mustard and pickles, but that's just my personal preference, and not on them at all. It was a perfect sandwich, expertly made. And I truly love a real hot pastrami. It was so good, and the service is quick, kind, and professional! Plus it's on a corner, with ample parking, (at least at the time that we went, there are several spots and there was maybe one other car there). Anyway, raving review, bomb food, highly recommend. Have an awesome day. Whatever your tasks are today, you got this.
